PDF is the central data format when dealing with digital documents. However in operational practice not all possibilities of PDF files are offered, supported, or used (sometimes for a long time), because of lack of awareness, among other things. Especially the fact that PDF files can contain other files is a characteristic that could be interesting for many companies. Since Adobe Acrobat X exists the usage of such imbedded files is even pushed by Adobe.

Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) creates companies’ document-based design and business processes. However the results are not yet consistent. Frequently, gaps arise in different places between systems, document formats and devices. This also applies to the use of Siemens’ PLM software, Teamcenter. Our Document Output Center for Teamcenter can help. Dr. Uwe Fetzer, manager for PLM Solutions, explains why. (Part 2 of 2)
Product lifecycle management (PLM) is responsible for collecting a company’s document-based design and business processes. The required processes, however, can often not yet be fully represented; it’s not uncommon that gaps arise at various places between systems, document formats, and devices. This also applies to the Siemens PLM software Teamcenter. Our Document Output Center for Teamcenter can remedy this. Dr. Uwe Fetzer, Manager for PLM Solutions, explains why (Part 1 of 2).
When it comes to their archiving, CAD models are very different from Office files. However, many businesses assume that Office files are upwardly compatible, and can still be read, edited and issued after every future version release. That’s not always the case. In this two-part series we’ll show you what you need to know if you wish to efficiently migrate your data from Microsoft Office 2003 (or earlier) to Office 2007 (or later). Today we’ll explain whether compatibility mode can serve as a solution, and show you how to set up and automate the ideal migration process

We have enhanced the support for complex Teamcenter architectures. The enhancements facilitate additional functionality such as performing conversions, applying additional contextual data as stamps, or documenting release data.
SEAL Systems now has a converter which, as part of a corporate conversion server (DPF4Convert), automatically converts e-mails delivered in EML format into a neutral format, for example PDF/A. A conversion solution like this is important for all businesses which want to do e-mail archiving on the basis of a file format suitable for long-term storage.
The know-how of an enterprise is not only in the heads of the employees, but is also kept in numerous documents. These files are stored in file of application management directories or systems, like DMS, PLM or ECM. Here the authorization and access concepts are essential for the protection of the know-how. But what happens, if documents with important product information get into the wrong hands? How can isolated data be protected against unauthorized access.
