The Evolution of Information Distribution

The Beginning

In the time of prehistoric people, one of the earliest known ways of sharing knowledge was in the form of drawings on cave walls. From these rudimentary sketches, documentation evolved heavily over the centuries with the creation of alphabets and more intuitive writing utensils along with portable information carriers. Then, academics expanded the information distribution process with the transcribing of books. After that, the printing press revolutionized the distribution of information completely by making it even simpler to share knowledge through books and printed materials. As time went on, sharing knowledge became easier and easier.

The 20th Century and Beyond

The 1900s revolutionized the methods for distributing information. No longer locked to pen and paper, radio and broadcasting made the process of sharing knowledge even faster by making it as easy as the spoken sentence. Then, in the 20th century, the creation of the first computing device changed the transfer of knowledge to such a degree that it uprooted our everyday activities forever: writing, reading, communication, all stored and transferred in bits and bytes across vast distances in the blink of an eye. Once the end of the 20th century arrived, the mass of digital devices and applications created a new burden: the struggle of sharing information between different devices. A new way of distributing information was needed to fix this problem.

Printer Fleet Management

Printers have come a long way from the first high-speed printer invented in 1953. Now, companies have a fleet of printers with different printing types, data, and configurations – across different system environments. Where one printer can easily be managed, a fleet of printers cannot. Printer Fleet Management solutions solve this problem. Using Printer Fleet Management, all connected printers can be easily maintained in one central database, and synchronization with all desired system environments can be completed automatically.

Company-Wide Printing from the Cloud

Cloud computing originated in the 1960s when the inventor Joseph Carl Robnett Licklider invented the solution with his work on the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET). Now, cloud-based solutions are transforming company processes. For example, with cloud printing, the process is flexible, cost-effective, and easy. Additional benefits of cloud printing are it …

  • Does not require your own infrastructure
  • Can easily be integrated into existing application environments
  • Is easily scalable
  • Works well for diversified locations (printing from different locations on mobile or tablets)
  • Can be expanded seamlessly
  • Is secure

Automated Documentation

As academics of old documented information in the transcribing of books and letters, companies share information through document collection applications like SharePoint, Teamcenter, OpenText, SAP, and others. Unfortunately, there are different locations the data can be stored, so finding appropriate information can be difficult. Luckily, the invention of Automated Documentation bridges the gap and makes it easier to share information. With Automated Documentation, data and files are automatically collected to create a new document. The data can also be stored as varying file types – and can easily be distributed across several sources (e.g., email, web portal, etc.)

Digital Distribution

Printing is no longer king in the information distribution world. Now, digital solutions have taken the crown. Where information used to be distributed by printing out each important document, collated, and then shared – now information can be distributed with a quick click of a button. Also, instead of having to track down the possible sensitive documents, an email attachment, or a web portal can keep information secure and can be viewed on any mobile or tablet device.
