Product information is an essential part of any product and is the result of the whole life cycle of the product. In addition, all product information has to be generated, administered, translated and published. This information is not only from consistent data types, but is also generated and administered in special systems like ERP systems, CAD systems and others. The storage of data in different systems causes insufficient overview and control of the process as a whole and leads to endless search operations, unnecessary double tasks and data redundancies.

Documentation Production Center (DPC) integrates within SAP to control and organize documents related to workflows and to enable the linking of documents stored in various business processes.  

There are three different data types of product information, which lead to different demands for the processing systems in an enterprise:

• ERP data: this is very detailed data, like single numbers, which represent the commercial processes like order management, calculations etc. This data is administered in SAP.
• PDF data: This is industry standard and contains "information containers" which are closed and meant for further processing. This data is for informaton storage and distribution (certification documents, OEM data, etc.)
• XML data: This is the "raw material" for different technical texts (manuals, catalogs). It is stored in specific modules in a neutral format for later publication in various formats.

The Documentation Production Center (DPC) can bring together the various data formats:

• DPC is the subordinate control and processing unit, which starts documentation generation and controls it.
• The Direct Publising solution from SEAL Systems collects the required meta data and PDF documents from SAP and checks for missing information.
• Any missing information is requested form the editing system SCHEMA ST4. It is then delivered to the technical writers, translated etc.
